Explore Graaff-Reinet and discover its rich history in the many museums, indulge in its plethora of century old indigenous Karoo architecture or drive to nearby Nieu-Bethesda and experience a typical Karoo village.

Graaf-Reinet established 1786 - The magnificent century old Dutch reformed Grootkerk gazes imposingly down on the wealth of national monuments in the Gem of the Karoo, the fourth oldest town in South Africa.
 

 

An excursion to the Valley of Desolation should be undertaken by every visitor to the Drostdy Hotel to experience the aweinspiring rock formations and the splendid view across the Plains of Camdeboo. 

 

The old vine in the garden of Reinet House - planted in 1870 and by 1983 had attained a circumference of 3,10 metres.

 

The Graaf-Reinet pharmacy - a mid 19th century chemist shop with some of its original Victorian equipment still in use.

 

The Lex Bremner Collection - fossilized remains of reptiles which inhabited the area some 200 million years ago.

 

The Owl House, Nieu-Bethesda - home of the late artist Helen Martins and subject of renowned playwright Athol Fugard's The Road to Mecca.
